Should I install my new anti virus protection as my present one expires, the day before that, or the day after it expires.

First Uninstall Your antivirus then restart your PC... before you even try installing another antivirus, as this can corrupt your system. So uninstall it first - restart - and then install avg.

As mentioned.... Use AVG.... its the BEST!

But please remember... it does not do real time scans, unless you but the paid edition.

Scan you PC (Do a full scan)

In future... any files you add to your PC... before you open them, right click on the file or folder and choose "scan with AVG Free"

Trust me AVG is the best and its free... but just remember to scan newly introduced files on your PC.

Unless you truly think what you are doing on the internet will put you at great risk in that time, it does not really matter.
Install a new one the day before it expires, unless you disconnect your self form the internet. Try the following free softwares to rid yourself of malware:
