My Computer Hates Me. Help?!!!?

Ok so check this, my computer has been acting hella crazy on me lately. I don't have an anti virus protection or any other type of protection...I used to, but that's another story. I download a lot of music and, I think because of it, I've been recently getting a LOT of pop ups saying I should download their software because I have a virus. Should I download one of the pop up softwares? Which one? Or is there any other place I can download a free software to stop this madness? What should I do? Whats the best thing to do?

Immediately go to download.com and download antispyware or antivirus software from there, u can even try optimizers for speeding up ur system. The best thing is its free.
