I use AVG free edition as my anti-virus protection and am very happy with it, so I installed the same programme on a friend's computer. She too is happy with it, except that it goes into an automatic complete scan every time she boots up, taking much of her resources. Search as I may, I have not been able to turn off this auto scan at start up. I have the same programme and it does not do this on my computer. I have checked her startup programmes but there is nothing there that I can remove. Any suggestions please?

On the main page, on the column on the left, click on 'scheduler' then double left click on 'test plan in basic mode' and untick the boxes for 'periodically start scheduled antivirus test' and 'if missed start immediately when computer start up' (although this one should cancel when you untick the first one. Now the column you double clicked on should read 'task is disabled' in the 'next start' column.

click on "start" %26gt;%26gt; "run" and types " msconfig" %26gt;%26gt; you can see a tag name "start up" , uncheck what program you don't want run on start up (don't uncheck all , just what program you know and you want )
